Old Burmese paintings in the collection of U Win--

Quite amazing how large this collection is.

Some of the cronies or oligarchs are said to be the ones driving up Burmese art prices.

So Mar Mar, the owner of Suvarnabhumi Gallery in Chiangmai told me.

If so some of it may be drug money.

I also read that one man has bought one of Sir Gerald Kelly's portraits of  Mawngpun MahaDevi (Queen) sometimes wrongly titled "dancer."

Then there is Kelly's portrait of Daw Than E Fend, wh might have been inherited by Kim Aris.

Anyway, I hope everything is safe--

Teza, said to be Shan himself, is said to have Nyaungshwe Sawbwa's photos. He posted some on FB.

They should be returned to the family, also the property--

Peace and Reconciliation Committees in Burma are badly needed.

It's a country based on injustice, that's why I dislike it.

What I don't like abt the U Win collection is its lacquered, romanticized view of Burma.  I don't think his artistic taste was so great.  However, I'm glad he could collect so much.
