I would put in a 3rd layer, also with box pleats.
Remember not to sew down the pleat along its length, as you normally would.
I don't like a million things hanging on my ears, so use straps if you don't like elastic.

You can also sew, embroider or write messages with soft pen on your masks, such as BLM or VOTE or I am Speaking.
