Highly recommended--Nien Cheng--Life and Death in Shanghai

https://www.amazon.com/Life-Death-Shanghai-Cheng-Nien/dp/0802145167

I first read an excerpt in Time Magazine.

In 2014 or so, I read the whole book.   In the book she described how she was finally able to leave China at the start of the Deng Xiao Ping regime, by among other things "donating" her excellent porcelain collection to a National Museum.

It was my privilege and honor to meet and interview Nien Cheng in c1998.

1997-2001 I worked at Radio Free Asia and was job harassed by the jerk boss of the Burmese section and his two women so-called editors when my programs became very popular in Burma.

Subsequently, I saw Nien Cheng's autographed photo in 2001 in a psychiatrist's office and he (Michael Hurd) also interviewed me on his Michael Hurd Show, for radio.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/11/12/health/us-coronavirus-thursday/index.html As Covid-19 infections and hospitalizations soared across the US , experts warned higher death tolls would soon follow. On Wednesday, there were at least 1,893 American deaths from the virus, according to Johns Hopkins University -- the highest daily death toll the country has seen since early May. Already, more than 241,700 people have died. And with the virus running unabated within US communities, that number will likely only keep climbing. Texas becomes the first US state with more than 1 million Covid-19 infections Another more than 110,000 Americans are projected to lose their lives in just the next two months, according to the University of Washington's Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation.
